Fall Archive

Hi Everyone!

Isn’t it so interesting to see how the changes in weather result in so many changes in our surroundings, lifestyles and personalities. I absolutely love the fact that summer season is all about bright colours and flowers while winter on the other hand brings in deeper colours and solid patterns. These changes in turn affect how we behave in our family setups. You know, how in summer we all sit in groups and eat fruits in our lounge while in the winters it’s all about being tucked into our own choices of throws on the sofa’s, sipping on to hot chocolate or that warm cup of chai. Ah! that chai.

Speaking of, I’m sure we’re all set and ready for those bar b q nights and long boots, not to forget taking turns on the heater to warm our hands. I know, I know what you’re thinking, I’m getting carried away & this blog is turning into a Winter blog more than a Design blog!

Lets focus on what’s important & talk about the trends we’re dealing with this changing weather, along with the ways we can prepare our homes here in Pakistan for the Fall/Winter season. I mean come on, we have got to accessorise according to the weather, right?!
Like we’ve always discussed, the first step (ALWAYS) is to go through the colours. Choose a set of colours that go with the existing palette in your home (make sure not to mix and match too many of them). Maybe you can add a touch of one or two new colours to the existing palette. Here’s a creative collection of colours we have shortlisted for you, for this season. The winner colours of this season have to be Mustard, Deeper shades of Orange, Burgundy, Brown and a Deep, pixelated green!

The right contrast of colour gives your space character, it speaks volumes of what kind of a person you are and what excites you. Every colour has its own personality. So Look to the shades you already love – in clothes, in paintings, in nature – to find the ones you want to live with.

Moving on to the super fun part; fabric and textures. You ready? YES YOU ARE. The right touch of texture makes your room visually unique and invites you to cozy up, and honestly isn’t that exactly what we’re looking for? So this fall, let’s fill up your couches with cushion covers that have soft, raised textures since they’re best known to create the effect of warmth.  Yes, you can rediscover those hand woven covers that your Nano or your Khala has made for you (don’t we all have that one creative Khala who’s the jack of all trades!) and personalise your space into an even more cosier one!

Don’t forget to add a bunch of super comfortable throws to your setting. If you’re more than 4 people in one home, feel free to add a trunk/basket on an innocent corner of the room that holds on to your favourite throws. Feel free to play with contrasts, to the extent that your home and taste allows.

Mix of warm and light colours, textured fabrics and accessories to accompany your winter needs is a combination that makes for a perfectly cozy set up. To top it off, let’s add a rug that shouts for being comfy. If your place is simple and spacious, take a leap of faith & introduce some pattern. You can get a patterned rug or even a collection of patterned cushions. If all that doesn’t suffice, safest way is to bring some pattern is through wall art. Let it be the statement piece for your space, not only stylish but engaging.

Make your lounge more functional with an additional touch of books, magazines and newspapers. Always a great idea to add more activity to your living room, so it can be a place of refuge at the heart of your home.
Last but not the least, play with the lighting. Dim lights are not only romantic but extremely cozy, they are infinitely useful for adding drama, warmth and sparkle to a place! So let’s get those lamps working, their light bulbs changed and ready for the winter evenings. Jazz it up with a touch of scented candles, and you have the perfect zen to chillaxe.
